"I am not afraid when life turns me around," sings Rahel in her song, "Where I'm Bound". That sentiment reflects the tone of the collection of songs on Rahel's debut CD: "Time Passes By". Many songs express a sense of wandering lost, yet there is an ever-present underlying courage and hope that the journey is purposeful and worthwhile despite the trials. The songs share a common spirit, as if Rahel was on the cusp of a sad ending and a hopeful new beginning. I can hear the empowerment of a woman starting over. I enjoyed the powerful harmonies and sparkling guitar solos in the songs, "Time Passes By" and "Hey Love". I liked the unusual strumming pattern Rahel uses to punctuate the beat in "Hey Love" - wow, what a song of joy! Clearly Rahel is a woman of great faith, and she can cover many emotional bases through the language of music alone. Although I don't understand Hebrew, the beautiful chord progressions and quiet vocals in "Babylon" tenderly express hope rising out of sorrow. I like the quiet softness of Rahel's singing in "Pierrot", a lovely song, better than the hard-driving' style vocals in "Straight in the Eye", but on the other hand, I really love the hard-driving harmonies. "Golden sun, rainbow colored skies surround you as you go. Move forward arms open wide, you've nothing to do but grow": That's Rahel's joyful philosophy of life, in 3/4 time from her song, "Whenever You're You". A gifted, soulful songwriter, Rahel has a lot to say, and she says it well with a beautiful, diverse, collection of songs.

The brainstorm of children's musician, Steve Blunt, this is a compilation cd including the songs of 14 New Hampshire children's musicians. Each artist contributed a song making this a wonderfully varied musical selection for children and their families. Most songs are in English, and in varied musical styles; with a selection by Miguel in Spanish and my contribution includes: Dode Moshe (Old MacDonald) in Hebrew.

These are the songs and prayers sung at Congregation Betenu's KABBALAT SHABBAT worship service. Sung by Rahel with guitar accompaniment, and Doug Hirsch, and produced by Paula Silver, this cd is available for a donation via the congregation's website.

Founded by Yona Yacobowisz in 1980, (I was a member from 1981-1998 - and a regular contributor), this band has produced numerous CD's of contemporary Jewish music by women. Yona has just released a book that she co-wrote together with author Malka Adler (published by www.targumpress.com), entitled, "The Miracle Next Door". She speaks about her personal journey as a mother of two special needs children. It includes a musical CD of some of Tofa'ah's wonderful compositions and one song by her oldest son, Yisrael Meir (Yissy)! Purchases also go towards helping Yona's two wonderful special needs sons, Yissy and Eli.
